The International Week in P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia
The delegation from Panevėžio kolegija/State Higher Education Institution visited P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia and took part in the International Week. The institution is situated in Jūrmala, a beautiful resort city on the coast of the Baltic Sea, with fresh air, white sand beaches, large pine forests and located just 20 km from Latvia‘s capital, Riga.
The city is full of students who are attracted to study at P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia due to the college’s modern study base, promising and popular study programs, and reputation of preparing highly qualified healthcare professionals. Aiga Grauduma, Erasmus+ program coordinator, organised the tour of the institution, told the history of the establishment and shared that the college. P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia started its activity as a medical school on the territory of P. Stradins Hospital in 1939, it was founded by the famous Latvian professor and surgeon Pauls Stradiņš.
During this Erasmus visit, delegates visited professionally equipped preclinical study rooms, modern laboratories, participated in practical classes such as dance therapy, massage, heard a presentation about the new service of the Samaritans called “Dream companion” which aims to fulfill the final wishes of elderly people and had a opportunity to see the special transport used to assist the elderly. The staff of Panevėžio kolegija/State Higher Education Institution had an opportunity to meet their colleagues from Latvia, share the best library and time table management practices and communicate with representatives of different fields not only from Latvia but also with guests from Belgium, Bulgaria and Romania.
Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia is a great place not only for staff, but also for student Erasmus mobility. Currently, Aistė Adamonytė, our student of emergency medical aid, is studying at this institution under the Erasmus+ exchange program.
